General description of the collection: The James H. Dill Papers contains a memoir entitled Personal Adventures--Inchon-Seoul, 1950 and an article entitled Winter of the Yalu: A soldier remembers the freezing, fearful retreat down the Korean Peninsula after the Chinese armies smashed across the boarder, both authored by Dill. The memoir describes Dill's experience going to Korea. Dill describes his experience on the ship sailing to Inchon. He recalls conversations and "bull sessions" that he had with various soldiers on the ship. He describes the uniforms and gear of the Inchon operations. Dill states that during his time in Korea the men did everything they could to get a shave and a haircut. He has a negative opinion of President Harry Truman and of Defense Secretary Louis Johnson. The article is his account of the march to the Yalu and back during the Korean War.
